New 2009 College Based Fee Proposal

On February 5, 2009, Cal Poly’s Campus Fee Advisory Committee met and approved submission of a proposal to increase College Based Fee to our students for consultation and consideration. The proposed fee increase would be an additional $100 per quarter above the current Fee for full time students starting in Fall Quarter 2009. The proposal includes additional $100 increases per Quarter occuring Fall 2010 and Fall 2011. Funds would be used in partnership with the University to protect Cal Poly from the negative consequences of major state budget cuts and additionally protect and enhance offerings of classes required by current students to graduate on time.

During the period from February 9 – March 10, 2009, the Cal Poly community will be involved in a range of meetings at the University, College, and Department levels where the proposal will be presented and discussed with students in a consultative process. On March 11 and 12, 2009, Students will be able to vote their opinion about the fee proposal. This is an advisory vote to the University President, who will also be presented with summaries of the major issues, concerns and opinions gathered from students during the Consultation Process. The President will use this material to decide whether to adopt the Proposal.

The University has established a special College Based Fee tab on the main Cal Poly portal to provide the complete text of the proposal and provide an overview of the consultative process. For further information and copies of all related documents and materials, go to the Cal Poly College Based Academic Fee Initiative web page.

In addition to the University information, each of the Colleges is providing supplementary information (to the right under Resources) about the current structure and use of College Based Fees, the complete college and departmental schedule for student consultation meetings, and all college and department level information.

Specific Department Information

Each of the five Departments within the College is posting on their individual College Based Fees web site additional materials including the record of past College Based Fee uses, contact information for their department College Based Fee Committee, and Department Specific information to further present the purpose and value of the proposed new College Based Fees.

Links to each department's College Based Fees web page are provided under Resources to the right. CAED students are encouraged to contact their respective departments should they have questions regarding how they may participate in the 2009 Consultation process, participate in the on-going CBF administration process, or make suggestions for new uses or review how CBF funds have been expended in the past.
