Wireless & Server Connection Guidelines

CAED Computer Labs

To use your department's computer lab, you need to login with your "Cal Poly ID" and password and the server will show up automatically. The "My Share" shortcut on the desktop is to your "Home" directory on the server, where you can save your personal files and are only accessible by you. Remember to logoff of the computer when finished with your session.

Cal Poly Wireless Network

  1. To get connected to the Cal Poly "Secure Mustang Wireless" network please refer to Mustang Wireless.
    • If you have any questions about your user name or password contact the Cal Poly Service Desk.
    • You will get much better results if you connect to the "Secure Mustang Wireless" network.
    • Note: You must have an existing Cal Poly account to log in.
  2. Go to the Antivirus Information web page for instructions about downloading and installing Antivirus software.

CAED Server Connection from a Personal Computer

Important: The CAED File Server is not backed up and is cleared off every July 1st. The CAED is not responsible for any data loss so always have a backup copy of your data.

Personal Apple Computer

  1. Click on the "Go" menu and click on "Connect to Server..."
  2. On the "Server Address" line type caedshared.cp-calpoly.edu and click "Connect"
  3. Enter the your "Cal Poly Email Address" and Password and click "Connect"
  4. After you are connected, the CAED-File-Server will appear on the desktop. Inside you will find the various departments and a "Home" directory. Find your Cal Poly ID in the Home directory and that is your personal space space that only you see.
    • Always copy your files off of the server to the local computer before opening them, then copy back to the server.
    • Keep a backup copy of your data.

Personal Windows Computer

  1. In "Windows Explorer" or from the Run prompt in the Start Menu type \\caedshared.cp-calpoly.edu including the backslashes
  2. Then enter your "Cal Poly Email Address" and Password then click "OK"
  3. Open CAED-File-Server to browse the server for your department's data. If you want to map this drive right mouse click CAED-File-Server and select "Map Network Drive..."
  4. Inside you will find the various departments and a "Home" directory. Find your Cal Poly ID in the Home directory and that is your personal space that only you see.
    • Always copy your files off of the server to the local computer before opening them, then copy back to the server.
    • Keep a backup copy of your data.
